Sinking of the Steamboat Brilliant by Henry Lewis
Lithograph by Henry Lewis depicting the sinking of the steamboat Brilliant on the Mississippi River by Bayou Goula, Louisiana. Assistance is being given to the survivors by the US Mail Ship John Randolph and various rowboats.
The sinking of the Brilliant took place 29 September 1851, as result of a boiler explosion, and resulted in 47 deaths.
